We are representing a premier international clinical laboratory diagnostics company experiencing revenue growth and expansion of their global footprint; inclusive of recent expansion of the U.S. market.  The position of IP Paralegal & Corporate Secretary will afford you the opportunity to develop processes to improve efficiencies/accountabilities and to operate with great autonomy.  You will report directly to the VP of Legal Affairs.

IP Paralegal – Expectations first 9 months:

  • Evaluate the patent portfolio and begin development of processes for efficient management of same
  • Evaluate the monthly and quarterly structure of Board reporting processes and enhance same

IP Paralegal Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the Chief Innovation Officer and VP Legal affairs in various trademark and general IP matters including application appeals, oppositions and invalidations
  • Assist in all aspects of intellectual property matters, including those involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property litigation
  • Draft legal advice in relation to trademark, domain name and copyright issues
  • Coordinate / partner with external counsel on all IP matters overseeing billing
  • Manage all board and committee meeting logistics & facilitate board communications
  • Support the VP Legal Affairs in order to advise the Board on its roles and responsibilities
  • Assist VP of Legal Affairs in providing  Director training and development
  • Manage process pertaining to the annual shareholder meeting

IP Paralegal Requirements:

  • Paralegal certificate (current)
  • Experience in patent legalities and trademark
  • Knowledge of producing and filing documents with national patent office
  • Superior attention to detail, problem solving capabilities, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in an atmosphere of multiple projects
