Many of us do not have much trust in corporations and leaders. We think they don’t tell us the complete truth – in other words, they are not very transparent.

Do we trust corporations and government leaders to tell us the truth?

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Recent polls indicate the lack of transparency in government leaders and corporations leads to low credibility and a definite lack of trust.

So how can trust be built? A corporation or leader’s day-to-day actions have the potential to increase credibility which, in turn, will increase trust over time. By dealing with adverse situations in an up-front and honest way, a corporation or leader can build credibility, and people tend to trust others who they perceive as credible. Granted, honesty can often equate to vulnerability. But it is exactly that vulnerability that creates the trust we all crave.
