New Dealbreaker: Shoes

By August 14, 2013 No Comments

Gentlemen, look down at your feet. Look at the shoes you currently have on. Especially if you are working at your job right now. Do you think they are appropriate? If you say yes, you are not alone. In a recent survey, about 75% of male employees believe that their shoes are appropriate for the office. And yet, they (and possibly you) may be fooling themselves. Only 44% of the male bosses and 54% of the women approve of the footwear their male coworkers are sporting. John Zappe recently wrote about the importance of appropriate footwear in the workplace (and included a hilarious chart about what does and doesn’t work when trying to get hired).

If you’re looking for a job, shoes are just as important as if you have one. 80% of managers report that the shoes worn to an interview are extremely important. They show just how much you really care about how you are presenting yourself. Bad shoes can render your lucky suit totally invalid when it comes to interview dress. If you want to make an impression, do some research and find out what works and what doesn’t.

So get some new kicks or get the old ones a shine. Tennis shoes aren’t gonna cut it. It could be the difference between getting a job and being passed over. Yikes.
