Chief Compliance Officer, Biotechnology, Tri-State Area

Expectations for first twelve months:

  • Conduct enterprise-wide compliance risk assessment, identifying key areas of focus and creating and implementing a structured compliance rollout plan
  • Establish effective relationships across executive leadership team and the Board of Directors, providing insight and guidance to assist in business growth
  • Build compliance program to include but not limited to: Billing, HIPAA, Cybersecurity, EKRA and AKS, Stark, OSHA, International standards (e.g. GDPR), 21 CFR Part 11, and EOE

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for developing and implementing an effective enterprise-wide compliance and privacy program
  • Ensure the Compliance Program effectively prevents and/or detects violations of law, regulations, policies, or the Standards of Conduct
  • Submit quarterly reports to the CEO & CFO and/or The Board, while also attending presentations / meetings to discuss reports and ongoing compliance initiatives
  • Establish a compliance communication and training framework to educate current and new employees of the current and developmental Compliance Plan, including the Standards of Conduct
  • Implement and operate retaliation-free reporting channels, including an anonymous helpline reporting system available to all employees and affiliated outside parties
  • Develop protocols for investigating reports of possible violations of any aspect of the Compliance Program
  • Ensure allegations of misconduct are investigated, that follow-up activity is properly documented, and that corrective action is instituted, as necessary, with coordination via Human Resources team
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or oversee internal and external audit procedures for the purpose of monitoring and detecting any misconduct or noncompliance; If misconduct or noncompliance is detected, recommend corrective action
  • Provide input and/or direction to Human Resources to ensure that improper conduct is discouraged and that support of and conformity with the Compliance Program is part of any performance evaluation process for all employees
  • Monitor developments in federal and state laws, regulations, and policies and generally accepted professional standards; disseminating this information as appropriate; and incorporating it into training materials and internal operating manuals and protocols
  • Advise the CFO/CEO and/or the Board regarding changes in the Compliance Program or other policies or procedures are necessary and assist in implementing such changes
  • Support review of 1099 distribution agreements, to ascertain compliance with standards, regulations and law

Requirements:

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree; Preferred Education: Masters or JD
  • You must bring significant and demonstrable healthcare compliance experience with exposure to building and developing complex compliance programs, including a strong knowledge of medical billing / CMS compliance
  • Compliance exposure within diagnostics / laboratory environment is highly desirable
