Compliance Officer, Global Manufacturing, Charleston SC

We are representing a global manufacturing group, headquartered in Charleston South Carolina, in their search for a Compliance Officer.

Expectations first 12 months:

  • Understand business structure and build relationships with executive team and business stakeholders
  • Work with General Counsel in conducting enterprise-wide compliance risk assessment to establish key priorities in refining compliance function
  • Improvement of global compliance function, incorporating communication and training to raise profile and awareness of the compliance function

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Global General Counsel, responsible for overseeing all compliance matters across the group of companies, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, policies and procedures; including but not limited to anti-bribery and corruption (including FCPA), sanctions/export control (including OFAC), competition and antitrust, and data privacy such as GDPR
  • Strengthen compliance awareness with executives and employees in the US and global locations; play a key role in identifying potential compliance obstacles and provide compliance input and advice
  • Ensure executives and employees understand and comply with compliance policies and procedures through training and communication, with a view to continuously improvement of compliance tools and reporting systems
  • Review various types of commercial transactions to assist in ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and relevant laws and regulations, including conducting due diligence and implementing compliance safeguards related to third parties and Joint Venture/M&A transactions
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risks within the business units; develop and implement corresponding preventive/corrective action plans; track progress on remediation and provide appropriate reporting
  • Demonstrate understanding of process controls and coordinate with internal audit resources
  • Conduct or assist with compliance investigations as applicable, including monitoring the compliance helpline and responses to compliance allegations appropriately and in a timely manner, with structured response plan
  • Prepare, update and audits compliance records regionally by detailing compliance reports, failures, alerts and corrective actions

Requirements:

  • Education: JD essential
  • Significant experience as a legal/compliance professional including focus on FCPA and OFAC compliance
  • Demonstrable exposure to building and improving a compliance program and working
