Director of Legal & Compliance APAC, Singapore

We are representing a global medical technology company with operations in 150 countries and 15,000 employees. The company are expanding rapidly in the APAC region and are therefore seeking to hire a dedicated legal and compliance professional.

Expectations first 12 months:

  • Establish self as a business partner and leader – embedding into the APAC executive group
  • Implement a region-specific legal and compliance risk assessment
  • Develop APAC legal and compliance program based on results of risk assessment

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Global General Counsel, you will direct, develop, and implement a legal and compliance program for Asia-Pacific (APAC) business based on industry best practices and serve as the primary support for legal and compliance matters in APAC Region
  • Support the APAC business with respect to its commercial transactions and contracting
  • Identifying issues related to risk areas including government contracting/public procurement, requests for proposals, competition law concerns, etc.
  • Establish an open line of communication and strong relationships with key stakeholders to provide relevant and timely guidance to the business in the region and to encourage a collaborative approach
  • Execution of compliance risk assessment and set the strategic direction for legal and compliance activities based on the risk assessment results in cooperation with the global compliance team
  • Develop and implement a training and communications strategy to reinforce ethical conduct throughout the APAC region
  • 3rd Party Support: Collaborate with necessary stakeholders to ensure the proper policies and oversight structures are in place to identify and mitigate risks related to third parties

Requirements:

  • Education: Law degree essential
  • Language: Business English (written and spoken) and Chinese (preferred but not required)
  • Experience: You must have a minimum of ten years legal/compliance experience at least 5 of which were at a respected law firm advising and supporting international companies with respect to their commercial arrangements and at least 2 of which involved advising with respect to compliance matters either at a law firm or in-house at a company
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and industry standards across the region with a particular emphasis on Chinese laws, regulations and applicable standards (for example: AdvaMed Code of Ethics on Interactions with HCPs in China)
  • Knowledge of and experience with anti-bribery and corruption rules and regulations (FCPA, UK Bribery Act)
